Glasgow School of Art show shines light on dehumanising Home Office

The Alternative Degree Show Festival at Wasps at the Briggait, Glasgow. Pictured is Paria Moazemi Goodarzi with her work The Redistribution of Memory A RESPONSE to the way the UK Home office “dehumanises” people has been created by Iranian-born artist Paria Goodarzi, who is now based in Glasgow. It reflects her personal ­experience of the British citizenship process and is part of the Alternative ­Degree Show Festival being staged by Gasgow School of Art (GSA) graduates. Her artwork, The Redistribution Of Memory, features five golden cages in golden barbed wires which hold woven balls made from the shredded letters she received. The backdrop shows a video of her creating each ball, which took two hours for each one.

Rebecca Fortnum appointed by Glasgow School of Art

Professor Rebecca Fortnum has been appointed to Glasgow School of Art s School of Fine Art The artist, curator and academic Rebecca Fortnum has said she is thrilled to have been appointed to head up Glasgow School of Art s prestigious School of Fine Art. Ms Fortnum is currently Professor of Fine Art and Research Lead in the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art (RCA).  She said that as an artist she had long been aware that GSA had nurtured generations of talent of international renown. The school has produced 15 Turner Prize nominees of which 6 were winners including Douglas Gordon and Charlotte Podger as well as other internationally renowned names including photographer Harry Benson and painter Jenny Savill.  Ms Fortnum will take up the post on June 1, 2021
