Colombo (News 1st): The Secretary to the Ministry of Education had advised to halt all functions held at schools with immediate effect.
This decision has been taken with regard to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country.
Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Education further stated that the Ministry had received information on various events and functions being held in schools disregarding the current COVID-19 situation in the country.
Secretary to the Ministry of Education – Professor Kapila Perera said everyone should be careful and vigilant about the health and safety of all school children and teachers at present.

COLOMBO (News1st): Prime Minister Rajapaksa has advised the Ministry of Education to urgently look into schools which lack basic facilities.
The government intends to fulfil its responsibility towards the children who are the nation’s future, Rajapaksa said in a digital address.
He made these remarks during a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Mahinda Rajapaksa college in Pitipana, Homagama.
Students with special talents and teachers were felicitated during the event.
Government parliamentarians Bandula Gunawardena, Susil Premajayantha and Gamini Lokuge and education secretary Professor Kapila Perera were among those present.
