Pride services slated for this week; CMT special coming Wednesday
Monday, December 14, 2020 – Charley Pride s family and close friends will hold a private wake and memorial in Dallas this week, with future plans for a public celebration of life memorial ceremony to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Pride Scholarship at Jesuit College Preparatory School, St. Phillips School and Community center, any local food bank, or the charity of your choice.
CMT will host a tribute to the country music great on Wednesday, CMT Remembers Charley Pride.
Featuring three decades of interviews and commentary from Pride himself, blended alongside archival footage of his greatest hits and performances, the half-hour event follows the Country Music Hall of Famer from his humble beginnings in Mississippi to his rise to CMA Entertainer of the Year with a long string of hits. Country Legend Charley Pride Dies From Covid At 86
American country music legend Charley Pride has become a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic. Pride is dead at age 86.
RCA Records recording artist Pride was at one time the second biggest selling RCA artist after Elvis Presley. He is also one of only three African-American artists to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
In the 1950s Pride excelled in sport and was a baseball player for the Memphis Red Sox.
In 1958 Charley visited Sun Records in Memphis and diverted his vocation to music. In 1971 he had his biggest hit ‘Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’.
