Groundbreaking scheduled for state veterans home project in Fillmore County
The state veterans home project in Preston has reached another milestone as the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs announced plans for a groundbreaking on the site.

PRESTON, Minn. - The state veterans home project in Preston has reached another milestone as the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs announced plans for a groundbreaking on the site.
A community information session was held at the Preston Servicemen s Club on Tuesday.

The groundbreaking will take place on August 19th with the projected completion date set for the spring of 2023. The new facility will include 54 residential units.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs made the announcement at a community information meeting Tuesday morning at the Preston Servicemen s Club. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 19th at 11 a.m.

MDVA Commissioner Larry Herke said the 54-unit home is expected to be completed by the spring of 2023 and then veterans will begin to fill the home roughly 6-months to one year later. The facility is expected to create roughly 100 jobs for the area.
