Council Holds Meeting on the Role of Poverty Alleviation in Promoting and Protection Human Rights
High Commissioner for Human Rights Michele Bachelet this morning presented her global update to the Human Rights Council, as well as her reports on Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, Cyprus, Eritrea and the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council also held a meeting on the role of poverty alleviation in promoting and protecting human rights.

the unique contribution of the Pacific and small island
states to this Council

The leaders of countries are called to
make many difficult decisions in the turbulence of today s
events. To address the multiple challenges of COVID-19, in
terms of health policies; sudden economic crises and
financial shortfalls; and the rising distress of people from
every walk of life is an immense and challenging task. I am
convinced, by my own experience and the lessons of history,
