Boss Emong is heavily touted to emerge victorious in this 2000-meter Triple Crown primer that stakes a grand prize of P1.2 million after ruling the Chairman’s Cup just last month. Also seen as favorites in the race where the runner-up pockets P400,000 and third-placer gets P200,000 are Commissioner’s Cup winner Super Swerte and Presidential Gold Cup 2020 king Pangalusian Island. Last year’s Triple Crown sweeper Heneral Kalentong, Road to the Chairman’s Cup winner Sky Shot and strong contenders in Son Also Rises, Goldsmith, Weather Land, Shanghai Grey, Big Lagoon, Rogelio and Spandau Ballet also vie for the lion’s share of the prize pool. ....
Published May 24, 2021, 5:06 PM Super Swerte never skipped a beat despite a long layoff due to the pandemic, exacting a sweet revenge against Pangalusian Island in the Philracom Commissioner’s Cup 2021 at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite on Sunday, May 23. Racing under bemedalled jockey JB Guce and trainer Ruben Tupas, Super Swerte crossed the finish line in one minute and 40 seconds, five lengths ahead of Pangalusian Island in the 1,600-meter race staged for the fire victims and medical frontliners at the Philippine General Hospital. Super Swerte stormed right out of the gates but surrendered the lead to Patong Patong inside the 900-meter mark before the Mayor Sandy Javier-owned horse regained footing and broke away in the final 350 meters. ....

Philippine horse racing will be off and running starting May 13 under the leadership of recently-appointed Philippine Racing Commission chairman Aurelio ‘Reli’ de Leon following the green light given by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Sport of Kings to resume. “It’s four days of races in Malvar, Batangas. May 16 will also be a stakes race day with P1 million prize for the first Maiden Stakes for three-year-old horses,” says De Leon, named to the post only last December after serving as one of the commissioners since July 2019 to become Philracom’s 12th chairman. ....
