Ganderbal: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal today chaired a meeting to discuss the modalities regarding the opening of alternate link road from District Hospital to Qazi Complex Beehama.
At the onset of the meeting, the DC briefed the meeting that the purpose of opening of alternate road is to streamline the traffic in the town especially from Beehama Chowk to Towheed Chowk which remains congested during the peak hours.
In this regard the DC sought suggestions from the concerned officers/officials regarding the measures to be adopted for opening said road and after brief discussion it was decided that the road shall be opened for one-way traffic from Monday on trial basis.

Pertinently, the 1 Km. link road is developed by the Municipal Council Ganderbal at minimum cost by engaging its men and machinery within the bare minimum time. The road shall remain one side open for light vehicles till it is fully developed.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the road will be instrumental in decongesting the main market Ganderbal and Beehama Chowk where traffic jams remain for hours during the peak time.
After inaugurating the road, the DC inspected the road stretch and gave necessary directions to the President Municipal Council for further development of the road and assured that in coming time the road will be upgraded for two way traffic.

JAMMU, Jan 18: Series of activities were held across Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to mark the beginning of National Road Safety Month.
The day witnessed inaugural functions, walkathons and awareness rallies organized by respective district administrations.
JAMMU: The 32nd National Road Safety Month was today inaugurated by Transport Commissioner, J&K Pardeep Kumar, with the flagging off a Walkathon-cum-Awareness Rally, here at Gulshan Ground.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion.
DDC Members Administered Oath Across JK
SRINAGAR: The elected members of maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections held in the history of Jammu and Kashmir were on Monday administered oath by respective district heads across all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, 138 DDC members representing 138 Block Constituencies of 10 districts of the division swore in the name of God and pledged to bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution of India and also uphold the Sovereignty of India.
