The vote comes as school districts across Wisconsin and the nation grapple with conflicting guidance as the school year inches closer.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said vaccinated students and school staff can leave their masks at home in its updated guidance earlier this month, the American Academy of Pediatrics soon after recommended all students and school staff wear face coverings, regardless of their vaccination status.
The CDC did acknowledge that schools may need to consider masking if vaccination rates are low or community transmission is increasing. But the AAP took it a step further, saying it endorses universal masking because enforcing masking only among unvaccinated students and tracking vaccination status could be too challenging.

APPLETON - Exactly 20 months after Ron Dunlap, a longtime Appleton principal who was hailed as one of the most influential African Americans in Wisconsin, died, the Appleton School Board moved to rename Lincoln Elementary in his honor.
After months of tense community debate, the board voted 4-3 at its Monday meeting in favor of the proposal to rename Lincoln to the Ronald C. Dunlap Elementary School, Home of the Lincoln Lions.
Speaking ahead of the board s vote on Monday, Yvette Dunlap urged the board to vote in favor of the proposal, saying her husband s contributions to the district and community are still blessings today. She also recounted how difficult it was at times for her husband to be a groundbreaker in the community, and he often questioned whether folks truly supported his work.

APPLETON - Residents of the Appleton Area School District will get their chance this week to provide feedback on the proposal to rename Lincoln Elementary in honor of Ron Dunlap.
In the next step of a newly-developed district policy to address making decisions about renaming district facilities and buildings, the school board on Monday endorsed a process to notify the community of the possible change, and the format of a survey to gauge the community s perspective.
The survey, which will ask respondents to rank their preferences on five renaming options, will open at 8 a.m. Friday on the district website, and will remain available through 4 p.m. June 18.
