The town of Breckenridge this summer will host a Fourth of July trail running race, the Summit Trail Running Series from July through mid-September and two standalone races in September.
Town of Breckenridge Sports and Special Events Coordinator Vince Hutton said the Independence Day 10K Trail Run will have a start time of 7 a.m. July 4.
The Fourth of July race kicks off the town’s traditional Fourth of July festivities, which also feature the Firecracker 50 mountain bike race, and finishes on Main Street. The race, which encompasses two 5.5-mile loops with 857 feet of vertical gain, has no same-day registration and is limited to 250 runners.
The Breckenridge and Silverthorne town recreation centers are no longer requiring reservations to exercise at the facilities.
The change comes after the Summit County Public Health Department reduced its COVID-19 level to green starting Wednesday, eliminating most capacity restrictions.
Reservations will still be required for fitness classes in Silverthorne. Cardio equipment that has been closed for physical distancing will reopen for use. Silverthorne’s hot tub, steam room and saunas remain closed but will become available once the rec center deems them safe to operate. When they do open, there will be capacity restrictions.
Masks are still required at all times in the Silverthorne facility except while swimming or showering.
Summit County reported 51 new cases of COVID-19 over the week, according to the county’s coronavirus webpage.
The total number of cases among residents stands at 3,649. Two new hospitalizations among residents were reported over the week for a total of 136 since March 5, 2020.
The state’s COVID-19 dial expired last week, and Summit County health officials adopted a similar though less restrictive dial to use locally. The dial change returned Summit to level yellow. To move forward on the dial into level blue, the county would need an incidence rate of 250 or lower and 60% of residents would need to be fully vaccinated.
