Gov Tony Evers introduces bills to reduce costs of prescription drugs

View Comments WAUSAU – After a similar but less comprehensive set of proposals was shot down by Republicans in the budget, Gov. Tony Evers introduced a new legislative package Wednesday aimed at increasing access and lowering the costs of prescription drugs. Joined by Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg and Democratic state Rep. Lisa Subeck, Evers announced the legislative package, comprised of initiatives proposed by Evers in the 2021-23 biennial budget earlier this year. Now, the package of 13 proposed bills titled the Less for Rx Act plans to tackle issues of transparency, accountability and out-of-pocket expenses head-on. Everyone should be able to afford their medication, but for far too many Wisconsinites, their prescription medications remain out of reach with outrageous, irrational and burdensome out-of-pocket expenses, Evers said. It s time for bold solutions and comprehensive reform.

Gov Evers Announces Bold, Comprehensive Plan to Reduce Prescription Drug Costs for Wisconsinites

Governor’s 2021-23 biennial budget to include comprehensive package to address soaring prescription drug prices By Gov. Tony Evers - Feb 3rd, 2021 07:15 am MADISON  Gov. Tony Evers today announced his 2021-23 biennial budget proposal will include a number of critical provisions to lower prescription drug prices and control costs, increase transparency and protect consumers, and ensure access to live-saving medications for Wisconsin’s most vulnerable individuals. “No Wisconsinite should have to choose between paying their bills and affording their prescription medication,” said Gov. Evers. “Picking up your prescription shouldn’t break the bank, but we know too many Wisconsinites continue to struggle to afford their medications. That’s just not right. Healthcare medications or otherwise shouldn’t be a privilege afforded only to the healthy and wealthy, and that’s why we are going to be tackling this issue head-on in our budget.”
