Princess Anne s alleged affair with her former royal protection officer, Peter Cross, threatened to seriously harm her reputation, according to commentators on Channel 5 documentary, Princess Anne: The 7 Loves Of Her Life . In 1985, Detective Sergeant Cross sold his story to the News of the World, detailing their intimacy and closeness. Royal experts pointed to the Queen s daughter s ability to remain tight-lipped about her private life as one of the reasons she escaped the scandal, as well as the actions of her older brother, Prince Charles.
PRINCESS ANNE proved she was a rebel royal when she foiled the Queen and Palace s plan to try and stop her from getting involved in what eventually became a scandal.
The expert went onto to claim the Windsor clan were rumoured to have an unflattering nickname for Anne s first husband.
She said: The story at the time was that the royals had nick-named Mark ‘Fog’ or ‘Foggy’ because he was ‘thick and wet’ and although that might have just been rumour it was pretty obvious he was never going to be anything like a match for Philip and Anne’s daunting father and daughter double-act.
Judi claimed that Mark and Anne did well to have a relatively low-key divorce when other royal couples sparked a tsunami of headline-making trouble and bitterness.
