Family Court is a civil court that hears cases involving children and families, such as child custody and support cases, neglect and abuse cases, juvenile delinquency, family offenses and paternity cases, and are present in every county in New York state.
Elected for 10-year terms, Family Court Judges determine the outcome of cases and issue orders, if necessary, after listening to witnesses and reviewing all information presented during the process.
“Family Court handles matters concerning families and children in our community who are facing difficult circumstances,” said Democratic candidate and current Principal Court Attorney for Tioga County Family Court Judge Mara Grace. “These situations have immediate significant impact … and the decision made by the Family Court judges affect the lives and the family of children in our community in Broome County.”
