Bassam Yatooma, who runs a liquor store on Detroit s west side will appear in court Friday after he allegedly assaulted a woman he says spit in his face. He said he grabbed her because he s paranoid about coronavirus and didn t want her to spit again.
FRIDAY NEWS HIT - The owner of a Detroit liquor store on the city s west side will appear in court Friday after he allegedly assaulted a woman while he was trying to remove her from his store.
Bassam Yatooma said the woman spat in his face and he's paranoid because his parents died of coronavirus. But witnesses said he punched her twice, dragged her through the store, and put his hands around her neck.

DETROIT – A Detroit woman has been charged after she was accused of stealing money from the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO branch and Laborers International Hall of Fame (LIHOF).
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, 61-year-old Cathy Long has been charged with two counts embezzlement by an agent or trustee $20,000 or more, but less that $50,000, three counts of uttering and publishing, using a computer to commit a crime, and larceny of $20,000 or more.

DETROIT – Wayne County Deputy Chief Raphael Washington has been appointed as the county’s new sheriff, replacing the beloved late Sheriff Benny Napoleon.
On Friday, Washington was selected by a three-person panel consisting of Chief Judge Freddie Burton, County Clerk Cathy Garrett and Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
Washington’s appointment will last through to the 2022 special primary and general elections. According to county officials, Washington must file to run in those elections.
The sheriff position became vacant after Napoleon died on Dec. 17 due to complications with COVID-19. Napoleon was reelected in 2020, with his new term slated to begin on Jan. 1.
