Under the new plans, insured households that experience flooding would not only claim money to cover the damage caused, but could also receive additional funds to build back better and make their homes more resilient.

PEOPLE in Leeds are being urged to check their property s flood risk in the wake of havoc across the UK caused by Storm Christoph. Leeds City Council says 5.2 million people are at risk of flooding in England, with a recent poll suggesting that only a third of those are aware of this. And the council is warning that with increased rainfall linked to climate change, it is likely that flood risk across the UK, including Leeds, will increase over time. It says there are simple things people can do to prepare for flooding - to keep themselves and their families safe and to save thousands of pounds in damages and disruption.
