(BALTIMORE, MD, 1/18/20) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today launched ‘Project Insan’ to support underserved homeless communities in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. ‘Project Insan’ is a year-long campaign in which volunteers will gather one day each month, in a COVID-19 compliant setting, to pack brown bag lunches for distribution in Baltimore to people experiencing homelessness. The initiative is named after Chapter (Surah) 76 “Al-Insan” (“Humankind”) of Islam’s revealed text, the Holy Quran, that emphasizes the importance of feeding the less fortunate “. . .only for the sake of God, seeking neither reward nor thanks.” [Surah al-Insan, verse 9].
