The
Washington Post has a problem. The newspaper’s coverage and commentary on Israel is getting noticed and for all of the wrong reasons.
It is, the journalist Armin Rosen tweeted on April 27, 2021, kind of “interesting how the
Washington Post has like a designated anti-Israel newsletter, but it’s apparently so irrelevant that both pro- and anti-Israel obsessives treat it as if doesn’t exist.” The Jewish state, Rosen noted, “is discussed far more” by the “newsletter” than “any other country, almost always in terms of whatever the activist talking points happen to be at the time.”
Rosen, who has authored groundbreaking reports for
Issa Amro’s So-Called “Commitment To Nonviolence”
First of all, the entire piece is based on the false premise that Issa Amro was, to quote
Newsweek, only “indicted for nonviolent resistance.” By unjustly depicting Amro as some sort of Palestinian Gandhi, the author tries to get readers to sympathize with a Palestinian who, in fact, has been accused and convicted of violence:
Rather than turn his frustration into violent resistance, Issa has instead chosen a different path. He committed his life to nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. […] For despite his commitment to nonviolence, Issa was convicted this week on six charges by an Israeli military court, whittled down from an indictment of 18 charges.”

A highly misleading article from the online publication “Vice News” begins with the headline, “A Famous Palestinian Activist Could Be Sent to Israel Prison for His Years of Nonviolent Protest.”
Journalist Batya Ungar-Sargon says that Issa Amro is called the “Palestinian Gandhi,” and quotes an interviewee who compares him to Martin Luther King, Jr.
But what Vice won’t tell you is that Amro is actually not “non-violent” at all.
In fact, he is quite violent.
According to the charges, Amro was actually arrested for his years of
violence against Israeli soldiers and civilians, and for actively harming and degrading human beings in ways that Gandhi and Dr. King, in their time, found
