South African passenger arrested with 02 kg of cocaine on arrival

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs arrested a South African National who flew to Sri Lanka from Nairobi, Kenya via Qatar on Sunday (09).
The South African national was arrested upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport for the possession of over 02 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside two shampoo bottles in his luggage.
The value of the cocaine is north of Rs. 60 Mn, said the Spokesperson for Sri Lanka Customs.
The suspect will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau adding it remains on alret to foil smuggling attempts despite the pandemic crippling operations across the world.

COLOMBO (News 1st); 20 suspects including 16 officers from the Police Narcotic Bureau who were arrested on drug trafficking charges were further remanded to the 14th of May by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala on Monday (03).
The suspects were not produced in court due to the present pandemic situation.
The Criminal Investigations Department has so far arrested 34 people including the 16 PNB officers for trafficking drugs.
