Video from a police body camera proved crucial during an administrative review of an incident in 2019 in which a Sugarcreek police officer shot and killed a man who had stabbed the officer.
Elijah Collins III, of High Point, N.C., stabbed Capt. Brian Dalton twice in the neck with a screwdriver on June 26, 2019. The assault occurred after Dalton cited Collins for damaging property after driving into an area where trucks were prohibited.
Video from Dalton s body camera was reviewed both by village council members and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Council concluded that Dalton handled himself correctly in the situation.
