Tree for Colin Settrington Parish Council, under the Chairmanship of Philip Marwood, are proposing to plant a memorial tree to a long-standing resident who passed away last year. In autumn Colin Wigglesworth passed away in Harrogate Hospital. Colin was born in Doncaster and, after leaving school trained to be a teacher in Sheffield. He joined the army, carrying out some of his National Service in Egypt. On his return he entered the teaching profession in Doncaster. In 1960 he became Head Teacher at Settrington Primary School. He then moved to a large school in Hessle in 1967 before returning to the area in the early 1972 as Head of Norton County Primary School. In the early 1980s Colin and his wife Deane built a house and moved back to Settrington a placed dearly loved by them both.
County Hall in Northallerton County Hall is used by North Yorkshire County Council for its headquarters. The main offices - the Brierley Building - is an ode to the architect himself. Meetings are held in the Brierley Room while staff can get refreshments in the Brierley’s Restaurant.
Dringhouses War Memorial It is located outside the Church of St Edward the Confessor. It was originally a First World War (1914-1918) memorial made in 1922, by Brierley and fellow architect James Hervey Rutherford. Later additions were made following the Second World War (1939-1945).
