Ford - one of the Brighton Area School Districtâs 12 social-emotional-learning dogs â is resting at home after surgery last month for a torn ligament, which is equivalent to an ACL tear in his knee. The surgery was performed by Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Twp., which donated the surgical procedure and waived all related charges.
It was for that reason that the Brighton Board of Education named the veterinary practice a âShining Starâ at its March 22nd meeting and accepted the donation of $3,900 in veterinary services. Karen Storey, whose idea it was to start the âPack of Dogsâ program and who is its founder, says, âThey jumped right on board to help Ford out. PORTAGE, MI Even during a school year that has flipped education on its head, there remains a universal truth for most high school seniors: college applications.
On top of the calculations of GPA, AP and SAT scores is the crown jewel of what sets a student apart from the pack the personal essay. The essay portion can be reduced down to a competition pitting students against each other for the greatest struggle and therefore greatest triumph.

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Wednesday, three new State Representatives from the Southwest Michigan area were sworn in for their first terms in office.
To begin with, State Rep. Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers), was sworn in by House Clerk Gary Randall.

The new legislative session brings with it substantial turnover for the Michigan House of Representatives, which will have 28 new lawmakers serving their first full terms in office.
Most of the freshman class will fill House seats vacated by members who hit their six-year term limit serving in the state House, although some defeated incumbents or are replacing members who sought other offices last fall.
Speaker-elect Jason Wentworth, R-Clare, and Democratic Leader-elect Donna Lasinski, D-Scio Township, will fill the leadership slots left open by the departures of former Reps. Lee Chatfield and Christine Greig.
