Our Orange County governments need to do a better job of highlighting the dangers of crossing our streets. Crosswalks are not safety zones. I’ve advocated for a community awareness campaign to draw attention to the need to remain vigilant of all traffic while walking across any street.
Our schools have a obligation to our students to make them aware of how potentially dangerous the false sense of safety a cross walk presents itself to be. I’ve personally witnessed a pedestrian being literally run over. The driver looked back, and sped off, leaving the person dead in the street. So avoidable. Stay alert and aware of all traffic. Watch left and right as you cross. The life you save may be your own, or a family member. Our O.C. county agencies, school boards and supervisors are asleep on this one. I grow frustrated when I see this type of news article all too frequently. Where’s the California state monies that are being provided to our county for pedestrian safety awareness? Non
