Home » Poker News » Delaware Ends Impressive 2020 for iGaming Revenue
The Delaware Lottery released its December net proceeds from iGaming, which means the entirety of the 2020 year is now available. And the numbers showed tremendous growth, as expected.
Due to the shutdowns of Delaware racinos – not to mention limited capacity for most of the open months – caused by the coronavirus pandemic, online gaming revenue grew. Most months saw impressive increases in everything from online poker to video lottery. The fall and beginning of winter months slowed but never as far down as to hit the 2019 numbers.
The online gaming industry in Delaware collected more than $8.4 million in net proceeds in 2020, with more than $639K of that attributed to online poker rake and fees. The total increase of the market was 137%, and poker showed its own strength with a 120% annual rise. Even new registrations rose 66% on the year.
World Series of Poker Circuit has opted to shift things online for 2021.
Rather than wait around and see if things clear up, the WSOP announced plans for monthly online Circuit events to take place throughout the year on, in a recent press release. They ll award more than 180 gold rings during these WSOP.com events, each featuring at least 12 and sometimes as many as 18 up for grabs. One has even been tentatively planned for a yet-to-be-revealed legalized market.
Additionally, things will build throughout the season toward a year-end championship event, in much the same manner the Circuit typically builds toward the Global Casino Championship. Small event-specific freerolls will also reward players on an immediate basis, increasing the value available.

The World Series of Poker Circuit tour is widely popular among low and mid-stakes tournament grinders. Each year, a number of events are hosted at various stops around the world, mostly in the United States. At each stop, a dozen or so events take place, and the winner in each tournament receives a shiny gold ring.

Sipila had a big stack early on in the day, but the incredibly swingy nature of the early stages saw stacks fluctuate wildly. Players were seen topping the chip counts one minute only to be multiple bullets deep moments later. Several used up three or even the max of four shells.
In the end, those reentries would make up more than 40% of the prize pool which pushed just shy of $1 million to far surpass the $500K guarantee.
Things didn t really settle even after the money bubble, as the fairly flat payouts encourage everyone to gamble for a big stack to take to the final table. Notables like Niklas Astedt, recent PLO ring winner Anson [email protected] Tsang, Jens Kyllonen, Andras Nemeth and George Wolff were just some of those who blasted their way into the money but fell a bit short of the final table.
Thereâs no denying that 2020 was a rough year for many reasons, but in the poker world, one of the biggest was in regards to those we lost. Unfortunately, the year was littered with unexpected deaths, from a Poker Hall of Famer to a Grammy winner, from regional grinders to old school vets.
