Deputy K-9 tracks suspect for a mile before his arrest in Cass County home invasion

Cass County Sheriff s Office cruiser (photo by John McNeil) HOWARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Authorities in Cass County arrested a home invasion suspect Monday evening, thanks to some help from one of their K-9 deputies. Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports that deputies responded to a home invasion that took place in the 2600 Block of Lake Shore Drive in Howard Township just before 6:30 p.m.. When they arrived, they were advised by a resident in the area that a suspicious subject with a back pack was cutting through yards in the area. K-9 “Faust” was requested to attempt and track the suspect.

Deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, April 11, to a single-vehicle crash on M-51 near Crystal Springs Street in Pokagon Township, southwest of Dowagiac. An investigation found a 34-year-old Niles resident and her 9-year-old son were headed south on M-51 when the vehicle went off the road, into an embankment and overturned, according to a news release from Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke. The boy was thrown from the vehicle and the woman had to be removed from the vehicle by first responders.
