Arizona Governor Under Fire Over Video Of Son Partying Maskless At Crowded Indoor Event
Republican Gov. Doug Ducey has urged constituents to wear masks and stay home to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) is under fire after a video circulated of his son partying inside a crowded venue without wearing a face covering or social distancing. His state leads the nation in daily COVID-19 cases per capita.
Jack Ducey, 25, attended a bash where dozens of guests drank and danced without masks, according to footage shared on social media.
The footage was posted to Ducey’s now-private Instagram page on Dec. 30, according to The Arizona Republic.
A bid to recall Doug Ducey has come up short.
Adam Halleck, chairman of the group dubbed Accountable Arizona, told Capitol Media Services on Tuesday that circulators have collected only about 150,000 signatures in the effort that began in September. That is far short of the 594,111 valid signatures needed on petitions by Jan. 16 to force a special election.
Halleck said the campaign was in some ways a victim of the very thing that triggered the recall: Ducey s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said people were fearful about risking infection to go out to the places where petitions were available for signing. And Halleck said more aggressive approaches to get names on petitions made no sense.

A nonpartisan group that sought to recall Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has suspended its efforts, deeming it impossible to safely gather enough signatures as infections surge.
Accountable Arizona would need to collect more than 400,000 additional signatures by Jan. 16 to force a special election. It took the group three-plus months to gather the roughly 150,000 signatures it already has. Our organization is all volunteer, and we do not feel comfortable continuing to send our volunteers out to collect signatures, the campaign said in a statement released Tuesday, stressing that 40% of the total COVID-19 cases in Arizona this year have come in the last five weeks alone.
