Unsafe, adulterated food commonly sold in markets: Rehman Malik

National February 26, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister and Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior, Senator A. Rehman Malik, on Thursday said that a healthy society is not only vital for better quality of life but it also boosts the quality of human capital and socioeconomic development of the country. While addressing a seminar today here in Islamabad, Senator Rehman Malik said that adulteration and unsafe food are the major causes of growing diseases in Pakistan. He said that safe and hygienic food is the basic right of every citizen and it is the foremost responsibility of the state to ensure its availability.

Qatar- Oral health can save people from severe COVID-19 complications: QU research finds

(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Doha: More commonly known as gum disease, periodontitis is a severe gum infection characterised by chronic inflammation, whose patients may be at greater risk if exposed to COVID-19. A research team spearheaded by Dr. Nadia Maarouf, Associate Consultant from Hamad Dental Center, and led by Dr. Faleh Tamimi, Professor at Qatar University s (QU) College of Dental Medicine, has demonstrated that there may be a strong association between COVID-19 and oral health.  While speaking on his research about patients with (periodontitis), Dr. Faleh said: In our study, we assessed the dental records of patients that have been infected with COVID-19. We discovered that a substantial portion of the patients that suffered severe COVID-19 complications (including death) had chronic gum infections, also known as periodontal disease. Our study concludes that there is a strong association between the severity of COVID-19 and the presence of periodontitis.

Former Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara to be cremated today

Monday, 15 February 2021 - 8:40 Former Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara passed away away last night (14) while being treated for Covid-19 at IDH. Wijesinghe Jayaweera Mudiyanselage Lokubandara, commonly known as W. J. M. Lokubandara, was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2010 and Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province from 2010 to 2015. He was a lawyer by profession, and was also an author of several books and a songwriter. Lokubandara held several ministries in the government of Sri Lanka before his appointment as the Speaker of the House. On April 22, 2004, W.J.M. Lokubandara was elected after a 9-hour controversial secret ballot.
