Bangalow health food staff fined for failing to mask-up

Police have fined staff in a Bangalow health food store for failing to wear face masks. Just a week ago, it was possible for someone to legally refuse to prove exemption from face-mask rules in NSW, even to a police officer. But the government has since updated applicable law and anyone who cannot wear a face mask because of a disability, physical or mental health illness or condition must now carry proof of exemption. Acceptable proof of exemption is listed as either a medical certificate or letter signed by a health practitioner or a registered NDIS provider, or a statutory declaration.

Pedestrian hit by car at Byron Bay

Date Time Pedestrian hit by car at Byron Bay Investigations are underway after a pedestrian was hit by a car in the state’s north yesterday. About 5.40pm (Monday 12 July 2021), a 62-year-old man was walking along Byron Street in Byron Bay when he attempted to cross Fletcher Street. As he stepped out onto the roadway, he was struck by a Toyota station wagon. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The female driver was taken to Byron Bay Hospital for mandatory testing. Inquiries are continuing by officers from Tweed/Byron Police District.
