RI is now lagging other states in giving COVID shots
Rhode Island got off to a quick start in vaccinating its residents for the coronavirus, but has now slipped into the middle of the pack among U.S. states, according to federal data.
According to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data as of Tuesday, Rhode Island, once in the top 10 nationwide for getting doses into arms, now ranks 28th out of 50 states and D.C. in shots administered per capita.
Things are better when looking at the number of people who have received two vaccine doses. Both authorized vaccines on the U.S. market require a shot and then a follow-up shot a few weeks later. Rhode Island ranks 11th nationwide in this measure as of Tuesday.
