Baystate Health to discuss Mary Lane closure with Ware officials; virtual community meeting set

WARE Town officials are slated to learn more Tuesday evening about the planned closing of Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center.
The Selectboard and Town Manager Stuart Beckley will meet with Molly Gray, president and chief administrative officer of Baystate Health Eastern Region.
In addition, Baystate Health has announced plans for a virtual community meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. to discuss the closure and future plans for patient care. To register, visit baystatehealth.org/EasternRegion.

WARE The president and CEO of Baystate Health said Tuesday he knows there will be some anger in the community about the health system’s plan to wind down operations at the Mary Lane Outpatient Center over the next two years, shifting services to Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer.
Dr. Mark A. Keroack who saw patients at Mary Lane when he practiced in Worcester, and whose parents were born there in the 1920s said people have an emotional attachment to the hospital, which has been part of Ware’s community since 1909.

WARE Baystate Health plans to phase out its Mary Lane Outpatient Center within two years, closing the facility by 2023 and relocating a majority of its services to Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer.
In June, Baystate will close the Baystate Mary Lane Satellite Emergency and cancer care services will be transitioned to the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care in Springfield. Over the next two years, imaging/3D mammography and rehabilitation services, as well as OB/GYN and pediatric medical practices, will relocate to Baystate Wing, according to a letter from Baystate Health officials distributed Tuesday.
