PONTIAN: A 56-year-old man with disabilities was rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department when his house in Kampung Melayu Raya here started flooding during heavy rain.
Pekan Nanas Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mahadir Mamat said firemen found the wheelchair-bound man lying on his bed in floodwaters about 0.6m high when they arrived at his house around 11.12pm on Monday (Dec 14).
He said the disabled man s 30-year-old brother had stayed in the house with him. A total of 16 people from five families in the village moved to the temporary flood relief centre in SK Melayu Raya at around 9pm when the waters continued rising, except for the two victims, he said.

JOHOR BAHRU: A 24-year-old man is feared to have drowned after he slipped off a scaffold and fell into the water while carrying out repair works at the Tanjung Balau Jetty in Bandar Penawar, near Kota Tinggi, yesterday.
Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue operations commander Mohd Fadli Ismail said the department received a distress call about the incident involving the victim, identified as Mohd Zulfikrie Buang, at about 5 pm.
Nine firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene, and the search and rescue operations were assisted by the police, Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Ministry of Health.
KOTA TINGGI: The Fire and Rescue Department has found the body of a 24-year-old man who drowned after falling off a scaffold while repairing the Tanjung Balau jetty in Bandar Penawar.
Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Fadli Ismail the body of the man, identified as Mohd Zulfikrie Buang, was found at about 3pm on Friday (Dec 11) near the Tanjung Balau Jetty here. Mohd Zulfikrie was Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Kota Tinggi Youth wing (Armada) vice-chief, 24.
