VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) The grim toll of the historic heat wave that scorched the Pacific Northwest became more apparent Wednesday as authorities in Canada, Washington state and Oregon said they were investigating dozens of deaths likely caused by temperatures that soared well above 100 degrees.

BOSTON A Maine man was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Boston after prosecutors allege he made plans to meet a minor in Massachusetts in order to have illegal sexual contact.
Officials say Patrick Plummer, 29, instead communicated online with an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
Plummer was indicted on one count of attempted enticement of a minor, one count of intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a person under 18 years of age, and one count of transportation of child pornography, according to a release from the U.S Department of Justice.

A man from Parsonsfield has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston, accusing him of driving to Massachusetts to have sex with a 13-year-old girl.

The U.S. Attorney s Office for the District of Massachusetts says Plummer used several messaging apps to communicate with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl and devised a plan to meet in Georgetown, Massachusetts, to have sex. He is accused of driving to the prearranged location on Sept. 26, 2020. He was arrested at the scene and police found four cellphones, a computer and a spring-release knife.
