The Group 2 Villiers Stakes trophy stayed with Mark Newnham after the local conditioner combined with Rachel King for successive wins in the summer feature mile.
Greysful Glamour was too quick for them in controlling the race from start to finish to hold out the Godolphin duo Best Of Days and Criaderas and give Newnham and King another win after being successful with Quackerjack in 2019.
The good track was played very fast with Happy Clapper’s record in the Group 2 Villiers eclipsed while two horses went close to bettering Yes Yes Yes’ 1200m track record.
The majority of winners came from on speed but overall, it was a great day of racing with some outstanding performances.
Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup would like to see changes made in Sydney.
“I would love to see a new track built with a training track incorporated in it,” Widdup said. “We could copy Japan, maybe not on that scale but something needs to be done. There’s too many horses at Warwick Farm and there’s no room at Randwick or Rosehill.”

BIG SQUEEZE
One Warwick Farm trainer told this column last month that he feared that one day only “four or five” trainers would be training out of each track in Sydney and have all the horses. “That’s what’s happening because they’ve allowed trainers to get that big and no one else can get stables,” they said. “There’s nowhere to go for up-and-coming trainers.”
