Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday assured the lawmakers on the floor of the House during the ongoing budget session that the government will set up more paddy procurement centres across the state.
Responding to a starred question asked by JMM’s Chaibasa legislator Dipak Birua on whether there are ample paddy procurement centres across the blocks, Soren said, “Our government is sensitive towards the farmers. I will direct all deputy commissioners to set up such centres over and above the existing ones on a need basis.”
Earlier in the day, BJP disrupted the Question Hour and Zero Hour by descending into the well to press for a debate on illegal stone quarrying and sand mining across Jharkhand. The opposition members began their protests after Speaker Rabindranath Mahto overruled an adjournment motion moved by BJP s Jamua MLA Kedra Hazar over the issue.

Governor Murmu hails Hemant govt focus on jobs amid pandemic Budget session of Assembly launched amid strict Covid safety norms, Opposition says it will counter speech on Monday
Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu hailed the Hemant Soren-led government for its effective management of the state’s finances even as it battled a pandemic while addressing MLAs on the first day of the Budget session of the state Assembly on Friday.
“Through various policies and livelihood-oriented schemes, the government has exhibited its commitment towards all sections of the society,” Murmu said in her over 40-minute speech in the Assembly.
She also noted that policy decisions taken by the state government in over a year of its formation had instilled confidence among people.
Ranchi: Stringent Covid-19 protocols will be in place for lawmakers, security personnel and the staff of the Jharkhand assembly secretariat in the upcoming Budget session, which will start from February 26.
Although Covid-19 infections in Jharkhand have declined in recent months, the lawmakers, security personnel and secretariat staff will have to undergo tests days before the House session gets underway, assembly sources said on Thursday. Taking a cue from the monsoon session, there will be social distancing in sitting arrangements for MLAs on the floor of the House while visitors’ gallery will remain out of bounds. While the assembly staff will be tested through RAT kits, lawmakers will be tested by RT-PCR and TrueNat machines, sources hinted.
