Gov. John Bel Edwards has appointed Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark V. Herford of DeRidder to the Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Policy Board. Herford will represent the western portion of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Policy Boardâs mission is to review the needs of the state and local governments to make recommendations of funding to the LA Commission on Law Enforcement to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control drug trafficking, drug related crime, and violent crime.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Louisiana State Representatives have passed a measure which would make possessing 14 grams or less of marijuana a misdemeanor. Taking away the possibility of jail time and reducing the maximum penalty to a $100 fine.
A 67-25 vote Tuesday in the Louisiana House marks a momentous step in the state’s effort to loosen restrictions on marijuana use. If approved by the Senate and Governor, jail time could be eliminated for people caught with 14 grams or less of the drug.

DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) - As of Wednesday, Feb. 17, all roadways have been deemed impassable in Beauregard Parish by DOTD.
“Just know that the roads are not safe. They’re not going to get any better for the next little while. So, if you have to be out, please use extreme caution,” said Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford.
Herford said he is concerned for residents safety and encourages everyone to stay home and off the roadways if possible. He warns that US 171 is particularly unsafe.
