Prior to the Pandemic
After a slow start to the season, the Giants started to turn things around after the trade deadline as an improved offence led to an 11-game win streak. The stage was set for an interesting opening round series with the Victoria Royals when the campaign ended.
Season Recap
The cancelation of the 2020 playoffs resulted in a bit of a change for the Giants heading into this year. Forwards Tyler Preziuso and Milos Roman aged out of the league along with goaltender David Tendeck, blueliners Seth Bafaro and Trevor Longo did not return for their overage campaigns, defensive leader Bowen Byram moved up to the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche and forward Cole Shepard was out for the entire season due to an injury.

Prior to the Pandemic
Having been in the mix for the B.C. Division lead at the halfway point of the 2019-20 campaign, the Royals elected to go all-in at the trade deadline as they acquired Anaheim Ducks first round pick Brayden Tracey from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Despite that move, the Royals ended up hovering around the .500 mark after the trade as they dealt with a number of injuries in the final two months. They were set to face the Vancouver Giants in an intriguing opening round matchup before COVID-19 brought everything to a halt.

The Melfort Mustangs have gone way out west for their latest commitment.
Dylan Franklin, a 2002-born forward, has committed to the Mustangs for the 2021/2022 season.
The Lake Cowichan, B.C. product began the 2020/2021 season with the Campbell River Storm in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) which is the B.C. Junior B ranks. In 13 games this season, Franklin scored eight goals and added another eight assists for 16 points. He was tied for ninth in league scoring at the time of the pause.
“Dylan is a very well rounded player who does all the right things.” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said in a release. “He has a lot of speed and skill and has had a successful 2020-21 season. He will be a great add to our program this fall.”
The Melfort Mustangs have announced another commitment for the 2021/2022 season.
Wyatt Day, the 2003-born defenceman from Gordondale, Alta., has committed to the Mustangs for next season.
Day began the season with the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta U18 AAA league. He was held scoreless in three games, and had four penalty minutes.
In 2019/2020, Day played in 32 games for the Storm and had three goals and eight assists for 11 points.
“Wyatt is a smooth skating defenceman with lots of speed,” Mustangs head coach and general manager, Trevor Blevins, said in a release. “He will bring a dynamic to our lineup that will be a huge asset for our D group.”
