UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Alumna Kathleen Pavelko easily, and thoughtfully, conquered a difficult challenge finding the just-right gift for a special occasion with her recent support of Penn State.
Pavelko, who earned a bachelor’s degree in history (1975) and a master’s degree in journalism (1979) from the University, provided $20,000 for the naming of a voice-over booth in the Bellisario Media Center. The state-of-the-art, student-focused facility on the University Park campus will open for classes and students for the fall semester, and it will transform student experiences in the Donald P. Be
To say that this year has been unconventional is a bit of an understatement.
However, it has brought many highs and lows and created a ton of memories (both good and bad) for Penn State students. Virtual classes and all, it’s safe to say it’s been a weird one in Happy Valley.

In just a few months, Penn State’s Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications will welcome students into its new Bellisario Media Center a $48 million expansion and renovation to the Willard Building that will house creative spaces for nearly every media organization on campus.
Although the center’s missing some finishing touches, it’s expected to be completed and “ready to go” in time for the fall 2021 semester.
To get a taste of what the Bellisario Media Center will offer, Onward State took a tour Thursday alongside Dean Marie Hardin. Here’s a sneak peek into Willard’s newest digs.
Penn State Time Capsule 10:29 pm
A time capsule placed this week in the Bellisario Media Center largely focuses on one aspect of the Penn State community: its people.
The sealed metal box, slightly larger than a typical automobile battery, was packed with a variety of materials and publications, including recent copies of The Daily Collegian, a Penn Stater magazine from the Penn State Alumni Association, and annual reports from the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. The capsule also includes a commencement program from the spring and samples of Penn State-branded masks and hand sanitizer that were handed out to all students, faculty and staff during the fall semester.
Intended opening of sealed metal box 50 years from now: Dec. 1, 2070
Contents of the time capsule include a variety of publications and photographs about Penn State, the Bellisario College and the Bellisario Media Center.
