The proponent of a new gold mine in the stateâs Central West is pressing the NSW government to hand over a large water licence that opponents say would damage the environment and farming.
Regis Resources, which wants to develop the $300 million McPhillamys Gold Project near Bathurst, has said it needs more water to proceed. It is in talks with the government to convert a licence of 192 megalitres a year of surface water in the Belubula River now held by the Water Administration Ministerial Corporation.
