Current events have made us reconsider the ease of travel we once took for granted. Three hundred years ago, travel and the experiences that came with it were new and novel concept. The Grand Tour was a cultural phenomenon that spanned three centuries and invented the very notion of tourism, as well as the Neoclassical and Romantic movements, arguably the eighteenth century’s greatest contributions to Western culture. In its original form, the Tour allowed promising young aristocratic British men to complete their educations abroad.
