Dumaguete was recognized as the third Most Competitive Component City in the Visayas based on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index 2020 Rankings released during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Virtual Summit in December last year.

“Without waiting for the national government’s support to Dumaguete in terms of infrastructure, we spent money to build two bridges simultaneously during the pandemic. My intention was to control the movement for people to not feel the traffic. Hopefully, the two bridges can already be used next month,” said Remollo who was a guest of the Network Briefing program hosted by Sec. Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

For the nth time, Rizal Province and Antipolo City were named Most Competitive Province and Most Competitive Component City, respectively, by the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Competitiveness Bureau for the year 2020.
The distinction is given to local governments units (LGU) who topped their respective categories in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index for a given year. The ranking is determined by the scores garnered by the LGUs. They are rated in terms of economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency.
The scores and system of ranking was put in place by the country’s National Competitiveness Council composed of representatives from both the government and private sectors. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provides significant assistance to this project.
