Filly Speaks Completes Series Sweep | Standardbred Canada

Filly Speaks alert move out of the pocket down the backside after a slow first half carried her to victory and a series sweep in Wednesday’s (April 21) $22,250 final of the Ruby Cook Memorial Pace for three-year-old fillies at The Meadows. After Oceans Apart waltzed through the front half in :58.1 over a “good” surface, Tony Hall decided to vacate the two-hole earlier than usual. “I was kind of concerned about the slow numbers,” Hall said. “I wanted to trip her out today because the track’s been sluggish and the front end’s been tiring.” Filly Speaks went on to down Oceans Apart by three-quarters of a length in 1:55, collecting her fifth consecutive win overall. Peep N Weep completed the ticket.

Filly Speaks Scores; Burke Wins Five | Standardbred Canada

Filly Speaks was all out to do it, but she captured her second-consecutive series win and fourth overall in the Ruby Cook Memorial Pace on Wednesday (April 7) at The Meadows. Peep N Weep took a similar narrow victory in the other $12,500 second-leg division of the event for three-year-old pacing fillies. Filly Speaks quarter-poled to the front for Tony Hall and opened a two-length lead past the three-quarters before Oceans Apart began to gain ground. Filly Speaks held off that rival by a nose to score in 1:53.3, matching her career best. Defy The Odds finished third. A Year in Review: 2020 Trends on Islands Worldwide

A Year in Review: 2020 Trends on Islands Worldwide As the year comes to a close, it is time to reflect on some of the positive initiatives that have been deployed by island communities around the world. Island economies have been some of the worst affected globally by the pandemic, with key industries such as tourism being particularly hard hit. However, many islands have also used their geography to their advantage, eradicating the COVID virus and even preventing it entering at all. Throughout 2020 island communities have shown a willingness to adapt to external shocks, and these four trends highlight global changes that could provide both challenges and opportunities.
