The I-Cubs scored four runs in the second inning to take an early lead, but that’s all they would score. Center fielder
Trayce Thompson hit a two-run home run in the second, his ninth this season. Thompson went 2 for 5.
Michael Hermosillo left this game in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury. He was 1 for 2 with a walk.
Tennessee Smokies
Starter
Peyton Remy may have had better days, but he pitched well enough to get the win. Remy allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings. Most of the damage was done with a three-run home run in the first inning. Remy walked one and struck out four.
It’s a Cubs sweep tonight! They outscored their opponents 24 to 3.
Iowa Cubs
Joe Biagini started and pitched five innings without allowing a run. Biagini gave up three hits and issued two walks. He struck out three.
Michael Rucker threw the next two innings and got the win in relief. Rucker allowed just one hit. He struck out three and walked no one.
Second baseman
Tyler Ladendorf broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. it was Ladendorf’s third home run this year. He went 1 for 5 on the night.

The Iowa Cubs martyred the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 15-2. It was the first time Iowa has ever beaten the Saints in Des Moines in ten attempts.
Matt Swarmer kept the Saints from scoring for six innings, allowing just four hits. Swarmer walked two and struck out four as he collected his first win of the season.
Third baseman
Tyler Ladendorf had a huge night, going 4 for 5 with his second home run of the year. The home run came with the bases empty in the second inning. Ladendorf had five total RBI on the evening.

Iowa
Iowa scored four runs in the top of the first inning and starter
Matt Swarmer gave all four runs back in the bottom of the inning. Swarmer finished after giving up five runs on six hits over three innings. Swarmer walked three and struck out five.
Ryan Lawlor relieved Swarmer in the fourth inning, pitched two scoreless innings and got the win. Lawlor did not allow a hit in his two innings, but did walk two and struck out five.
Justin Steele pitched the next two innings in a rehab appearance and also did not give up a run or a hit. Steele walked two and struck out one.
