Online shows are prohibited from having sections in which viewers spend money to buy votes for entertainment stars, according to a notice released on Monday by Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau.
The shows are strictly forbidden from instigating or encouraging netizens to vote for their favorite online show competitors via materialistic approaches such as purchasing specific goods or membership, the bureau said in a notice released on its WeChat account.
Any institution or individual is not allowed to fabricate vote statistics or influence the results of the shows by buying votes, it added.

Youth With You as its producers have decided to cancel it.
Announcing the decision through their official Weibo, the producers also denied viralled news that they have chosen the winners and formed a group for them.

A popular Chinese talent competition was suspended after the voting system led to crazed fans wasting yoghurt drinks.
A GROUP of 40 to 50 elderly people were sitting around a huge ditch, busy unpacking stacks of yoghurt drinks and pouring the content into the drain.
Someone captured their act on video and it went viral.
Nearly 300,000 bottles were wasted, all for the QR codes printed inside the yoghurt drink bottles to enable fans of a popular Chinese idol programme to support their favourite contestants.

The Chinese online video platform iQIYI apologized on Thursday for the milk-wasting scandal caused by the variety show it produces Youth with You Season 3.
The program was accused of encouraging viewers to buy milk and scan the QR code inside the bottle caps to support their favorite stars on the show. It was suspended by the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau on Tuesday.
A video shows large amounts of milk was dumped because fans only needed the bottle caps. It triggered massive criticism online.
