BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - One person is dead following a Wednesday evening crash in Bainbridge, according to Decatur County Coroner Kenneth Hollis.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
A Facebook post by Bainbridge Public Safety (BPS) said the accident happened on Highway 84 West near Mike Floyd Paving, sometime around 8 p.m.
The roadway is blocked and BPS is urging drivers to avoid the area.
In a 10 p.m. update to the Facebook post, BPS said that Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has taken over the accident scene and that Highway 84 will remain closed to traffic for an undetermined amount of time.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) â One person is dead following a crash between two semi-trucks on Highway 84 near Mike Floyd Paving Wednesday night.
The road in both directions will be closed to traffic indefinitely, with Georgia State Patrol taking over the accident scene.
Decatur County Coroner Kenneth Hollis confirmed to ABC 27 the death of a person from the crash.
Bainbridge Public Safety posted to their Facebook account at 8:30 p.m. with the alert warning drivers to avoid the area.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - If you live in Bainbridge and saw a house on fire Monday, it was all for training.
The Bainbridge Public Safety Department held a live fire training for its firemen.
Public safety officials said it provides adequate training for real-life scenarios.
Firefighters risk their lives every single day. But how do they prepare?
Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Deen said the best way is live fire training.
“Every house is different in how it burns. It helps give them an idea each time we do this, a little different scenario,” Deen said.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - A Bainbridge man is behind bars after a fight with an off-duty officer, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Agents said on April 24, around 3 p.m., the GBI was requested by Bainbridge Public Safety (BPS) Director Frank Green to assist in an investigation of a fight between off-duty BPS officer Austin Spence and Jason Williams, 38.
The release said during the fight, Williams punched Spence in the face multiple times. The incident happened during a child custody exchange with Williams’ ex-wife, according to the GBI.

On Thursday, April 1st at 8:20am, Bainbridge Public Safety, Decatur County Fire and Rescue, Decatur-Grady EMS, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Natural Resources were dispatched to the Bainbridge Marina in reference to a truck partially submerged in the river. Upon arrival, First Responders could see the truck almost completely covered in water and located next to the “island” of land near the end of the boat ramp. Efforts were made to reach the truck and we are saddened to report that a Florida man was found inside, deceased. Deputy Coroner DeWitt Phillips has identified the man who died as Jesse Fudge Jr., age 80, of Havana, Florida.
