Marshall Memo: 'Honored Patriots of Marshall County' Compiled by Local Historian | News, Sports, Jobs

Local historian Thomas James recently donated three military reference books that he compiled and gave to the three Marshall County libraries–Moundsville, Cameron and Benwood-McMechen.
The book is titled “Honored Patriots of Marshall County, West Virginia.”
James undertook this research project at the invitation of the Marshall County Commission. His work details the military service of 464 county soldiers who died in the line of duty.
The scope of the project encompasses those who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf Wars.
The names of these soldiers are engraved on five granite monuments in the Veterans Plaza on the Marshall County Courthouse. ....

Marshall Memo: Virtual Tours of Former State Penitentiary in Moundsville Set | News, Sports, Jobs

If you haven’t been through a maximum security penitentiary you will have such an opportunity beginning April 1.
The Moundsville Economic Development Council has made available such a tour without leaving your home or business. The new tour is the result of the MEDC purchasing equipment necessary for virtual tours.
Those wishing to take advantage of such a tour will need a Facebook account.
Person interested can contact the MEDC at 304-845-6200 to purchase a card which will be needed in order to make contact with the tour.
Those on the “tour” will be able to ask questions from a tour guide. ....
