They say one man broke into the downtown businesses. He spent an hour looking for cash. He must have pushed, broked the window and tried to get in, says Cindy Robertson, owner of Shear Artistry.

Dispatchers noticed a silver car parked Tuesday afternoon on Lake Herman and Industrial roads through one of the city’s community cameras in the area. They then saw two males exit the car, and one of them started firing a gun into the brush area off the roadway. The dispatchers notified officers and located the car on East 2nd Street and Lake Herman Road.

Fairfield woman faces felony carjacking allegation after arrest in Benicia BENICIA A Fairfield woman faces a felony allegation after the carjacking of an elderly woman. Courtney Fulghum was taken into custody Wednesday night by Benicia police after the Fairfield Police Department issued a be-on-the-lookout notice, according to an update from the Benicia Police Department. The 32-year-old was spotted at a gas station on East 2nd Street. She was reported stealing an item, was allegedly confrontational with an employee and left in a vehicle that matched that of the stolen vehicle. While officers were en route to the scene, dispatchers received a report of the same woman acting in an erratic manner at another gas station on East 2nd Street.

Franken wants more oversight of crude oil shipped by rail April 6, 2014 By Melanie Sommer In the wake of recent accidents involving trains carrying crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken oil fields, U.S. Sen. Al Franken is calling for more federal oversight of oil transport by rail. Franken, D-Minnesota, and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee which takes a lead role in writing the federal budget each year urging the creation of a Safe Transportation of Energy Products Fund. The new program would look at ways to improve the safety of transporting crude oil by train and oil tankers, the Northland News Center reports. The fund would pay for more safety inspections, disaster response training, studies and community outreach, among other things.
