Bethany High School senior Stefi Thanscheidt won hers with the perfect spoken word. I did enjoy poetry, but I don t think I had ever really connected with one, Stefi said. That was until she competed in the 2021 Poetry Out Loud program, a national competition that puts students poetry prowess to the test. Stefi memorized and recited three poems for the virtual competition, being judged on things like articulation, accuracy, and dramatic flair. To be a state champion is just really a nice honor to receive. She s worked hard, she s really put a lot of time and effort into the program, said Paul Baker, Bethany High School drama and debate teacher.
