Over $500,000 is being given to several local non-profit organizations.
It’s coming from the $83 million Resilient Communities Fund, which provides up to $150,000 in grants for non-profit organizations.
The funds will be split between:
-The Women’s Centre Grey-Bruce, Kitchen upgrades, hiring temporary full-time cook – $59,000
-South-East Grey Community Health Centre, Wireless infrastructure/renovation to created 24-hour community classroom and gym – $125,300
-Municipality of Grey Highlands, Outdoor facilities with Wi-Fi hotspots/purchase smart lockers – $83,500
-Sheatre, Purchase technological equipment and software to produce virtual contest and re-design marketing strategy and mobile-responsive website design – $25,000
-Owen Sound Little Theatre, Purchase technological equipment to create virtual content and renovating washroom facilities – $135,700

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many of society’s most urgent issues.
And that includes gender inequities, which have resulted in women – particularly those in rural communities – experiencing a greater impact than men from the pandemic, said Ashleigh Weeden, the keynote speaker during a Women’s Centre Grey-Bruce virtual event to honour International Women’s Day Monday.

“The necessary responses to COVID and the way it’s impacted all aspects of our lives tend to fall disproportionally on women because of the roles that women are occupying in our social, economic and political systems,” said Weeden, a PhD candidate in rural studies at the University of Guelph.
