Thomas More University named 2002 graduate Kelly French as vice president and chief of staff.
French has served at Thomas More since 2005 in the capacities of registrar, director of academic information, director of institutional research, planning, and assessment, and most recently, vice president for strategy and impact.
As vice president and chief of staff, French will lead institutional-level projects and advise the president on key initiatives in the alignment of the 2021-25 strategic plan, Lighting the Way , to ensure effectiveness and long-range planning, a news release said. She will oversee and lead the university’s accreditation, institutional research, operations, and human resources.

SEVENTEEN local women-based groups have united to call on government to lift its controversial ban on by-elections.
The ban has been in place ostensibly as part of government’s measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 during its peak in the country.
Some 26 parliamentary and 80 ward seats have been rendered vacant mainly due to expulsions on MDC Alliance MPs by the rival MDC-T which was declared the legitimate faction of the feuding opposition.
Said the organisations in a statement, “The undersigned women’s rights organisations, working on promoting democracy, good governance and the full participation of women, women with disabilities and young women in electoral processes, are deeply concerned with the indefinite suspension of by-elections in Zimbabwe.

A group of rights-based NGOs have petitioned the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) and Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) to investigate allegations of abuse on workers by some Chinese mining companies. The petition prepared by Matabeleland North Institute of Human Rights (MIHR) was endorsed and jointly issued by Women Institute for Leadership Development, Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association and the Matobo Youth Development Initiative.
