ROCKFORD Instead of students paying for school, utility giant ComEd is going to pay them to learn about jobs in the energy industry.
Young adults ages 17 to 19 can earn as much as $700 for attending a six-week virtual Tools of the Trade class, which is returning to the Rockford area this summer after a year off because of the pandemic.
The goal is to help the students familiarize themselves with the work, gain hands-on experience and develop a greater understanding of what it means to work for ComEd and the energy distribution industry. If I would have known that Tools of the Trade and that ComEd was even an option right out of high school for me I would have totally bypassed college altogether, said Brian Seaton, training manager at ComEd.
