“Yalda” wins best screenplay award at Barcelona film festival Tehran Times
TEHRAN – Iranian drama “Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness” directed by Masud Bakhshi has won the award for best film at the Barcelona Sant Jordi International Film Festival (BCN Film Fest).
Written by Bakhshi, the Persian-language film is a co-production from Iran, France, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Lebanon.
It is about Maryam, a young woman who has been sentenced to death for murdering her husband, Nasser. Iranian law allows the victim’s family to forgive her and spare her life, so Maryam’s fate will be decided by Nasser’s daughter, Mona, on the country’s most popular televised reality show. In front of millions of viewers during Yalda, the winter solstice celebration, Maryam and Mona discover that forgiveness can be difficult as they relive the past.

European Union and Government of Burundi held a second round of talks on Friday as a follow up on dialogue since President Evariste Ndayishimiye came to power.
Burundi and EU had frozen relations for almost five years until they opened dialogue in December last year.
President Ndayishimiye last year received in audience the Ambassador of the European Union to Burundi, Claude Bochu, along with the Ambassadors of Germany, Belgium and France.
“It is high time to resolve misunderstandings with mutual respect,” the EU said after meeting with President Ndayishimiye.
There are 6 priorities of President Ndayishimiye including; good governance, public health, education, agriculture and livestock, free healthcare for retirees and youth development.

Emmanuel Mouret’s “Love Affairs” (The Things We Say, The Things We Do) is leading the nominations for the Cesar Awards, France’s top film honors. Nominations were announced online on Wednesday.
The film, which was part of Cannes 2020’s official selection, weaves together a series of romantic tales exploring love, friendship and infidelity with an ensemble cast including Camelia Jordana, Niels Schneider, Vincent Macaigne and Julia Piaton. “Love Affairs” earned 13 awards nominations, including for best film, director, as well as nods for Jordana, Schneider, Macaigne and Piaton. The film previously won best film at the Lumieres Awards.
