Raiding teams stay in city lodges as tourists
Mysuru/Bengaluru: In a massive pre-dawn swoop,
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths conducted raids at the residences and offices of nine Government officials across Karnataka including Mysuru, Bengaluru, Belagavi, Chikkaballapura and Yadgir.
As per initial reports, cash, jewellery, expensive watches and gold utensils have been found in the raids conducted in Mysuru. However, ACB sources are tight-lipped about the exact value of the seizures and said the details of movable and immovable properties would be revealed later.
As many as 52 teams headed by jurisdictional Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) are carrying out raids at 28 places. The much-lauded ward committee meetings, held in every ward to allow
residents to place their problems before the civic authorities, have turned into a nightmare for
Mohammed Ibrahim. The resident of Govindapura, who retired as the personal assistant to the General Manager of NGEF in 2002, has been very vocal at these meetings.
But instead of providing solutions to the problems raised by him, Ibrahim says the
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is targeting him.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) plans to request it be given more teeth to go after the land mafia. If its request is granted, the Special Task Force and Vigilance Wing attached to the BDA will get police station status on par with the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force.
The Act has, however, specifically mentioned the removal of structures or fixtures that have been erected on the encroached land by obstructing the streets. In such instances, the zonal commissioners have the powers to issue notices if he or she finds the structure blocking the public road including footpath.
